How to Use ATS Keywords Without Keyword Stuffing

Use the language of a target job description to communicate relevance, but let every keyword prove a real skill or experience. Keep applications readable for people as well as software.

What ATS keywords really are

ATS keywords are job titles, skills, tools, qualifications and industry terms that describe what an employer needs. They can communicate relevance, but they are not a substitute for evidence, clear writing or a truthful match.

Start with the job description

Highlight repeated requirements, action words, software names and deliverables. Compare those terms with your actual experience and create a short priority list instead of copying every phrase into your CV.

Place keywords where they make sense

Use important terms in your summary, skills section and achievement bullets when they accurately describe your background. Connect a tool such as Excel to a real report, process or responsibility rather than placing it in a disconnected list.

Show proof, not repetition

A keyword becomes useful when linked to an action, responsibility or result you can discuss. Replace “responsible for customer service” with a specific example of resolving enquiries, recording issues or improving a process.

Run a human readability check

Remove repeated phrases, long keyword strings and skills that do not support the role. A readable CV is more useful than one written only for software, and no template can guarantee an ATS result.

Questions before you start?

How many ATS keywords should I include?

There is no reliable universal number. Choose the most relevant terms from the vacancy and use each naturally where your experience supports it.

Should I copy the job description word for word?

No. Mirror accurate terminology, but rewrite it in your own clear language and connect it to genuine responsibilities or achievements.

Can JobFoxi guarantee that my CV will pass an ATS?

No. Screening depends on the employer, software, role and information. JobFoxi helps structure and tailor your CV, but cannot guarantee a result.
